Peace be with you,

This is a new project if you might call it I had decided to start, because of my sleeping in habits had kicked in lately. To recondition my early waking up habits I am going to be waking up at 5am every morning, no matter Friday, or Saturday. Today is the first day and without Alarm clock i woke up at 5:14Am this morning. Which is not as good as I like but its a start inshallah.

The plans I have today are kind of threatening, but I think I am up for the challenge. So basically, I have 2 assignments due this afternoon. One is complete, just have to clean it up a bit, second one is about 70% so inshallah i will get that done before I leave for school. Friday Prayer. I have a test that i have not much idea about for which i am going to study on my to school, and a little bit before. This test has been the biggest procrastination in the past week or 2, because i had the questions all i needed to do was look up the answers and sort of understand but guess what ? I NEVER GOT TO IT. So the marks that i get on this shall haunt me for a while. The problem was that this was the least interesting thing on my list so I always moved it down to the end.   Also I guess there was some fear that I would not find the answers for all the questions so lets see if someone else would do it do it, so i can get it off of them.  (NOT GOING TO HAPPEN AGAIN, INSHALLAH)

Other than that I am leaving to go see my parents for the study week, I am planing not to get comfortable at all. Still keep going with my schedule as much as i can and definitely wake up at 5am everyday.

So with having this said lets see how the next 29 days come, 1 down 29 to go. If you want to join the challenge just leave a comment at any one of these post and get started by waking up early in the morning.

Sunrise

Peace be with you,

Today it was really hard getting up the fact that I went to sleep at 1:30, and plus yesterday I was thinking if I am going to adapt to my new sleeping style; might as well go all in. So I took my bed apart and took the mattress out and me an nice comfortable yoga mat. Now I am sleeping on the floor, why you ask ?

WHY YOU SHOULD SLEEP ON YOUR BACK

What you need to do is sleep in a position that duplicates the kind of posture that you want to have during the day: shoulders back, head straight. Your ears should be in alignment with your shoulders, which should be in alignment with your elbows, which should be in alignment with your hip, knee and down through your ankle.

Obviously, the only way to maintain this positioning is on your back. Sleeping on your back represents a neutral posture; it represents a very straight posture that ensures that your body stays in alignment. If you can keep your body in alignment, it won’t stretch or tighten up while you sleep.

A lot of people wake up with stiff necks, with their chests kind of tight and sore. Maybe their backs ache a little bit. The reason: They sleep all curled up, which causes their neck, back and shoulder muscles to stretch and tighten up. (more.., From Ezine articles)

How you ask?

  • Lie on your side in the fetal position with your knees bent and a pillow tucked between your legs. This will take the most stress off your back.
  • If you must sleep on your back, prop a big, fluffy pillow under your knees to reduce the pressure on the sciatic nerve in your lower back.
  • Use a small pillow or a rolled-up towel under your neck as long as it doesn’t push your chin too far forward.
  • Don’t sleep on your stomach. Sleeping facedown can exaggerate the arch at the base of your spine and cause strain. Our advice? Sew or tape a tennis ball to the front of your nightgown or nightshirt. We guarantee your stomach-sleeping days will be over. (Ezine Articles)

There was not much change in my sleep, and I did not stay on my back all night, i sorta turned on the side for about half hour so thats ok. Today it was really tuff getting out and even more tuff staying up, but thank God I made it. I guess I didn’t want to miss the sunrise.

So now I think with 4 hours of sleep and at least two 30 min naps I should be good, it would take me a couple of days to get use to this but I think my body will soon adapt. As long as I keep my self disciplined I should be good to go, and the best thing that is helping me much is ramadan.

I am way too excited and have a lot of things plan so I am gona go about my day will catch up later :P …..

best wishes,

Getting Comfortable September 23, 2007

Peace be with you,

I am getting really comfortable with this whole watching the sunrise deal, its pretty sweet, energizing and, relaxing. Nothing like a nice cool breeze in the morning, Thank God for that.

Yesterday, I only took an hour nap with about 5 hours of sleep and it was fantastic, expect the fact that the nap was too long I need to keep my naps under 30 minutes. This is because after about half an hour you start getting into the rem sleep (deep sleep) and, if you wake in middle of the rem sleep it messes up you sleeping cycle. So I am going to be more careful about my naps and, I think I am going to take 2 half hour naps with about 4 hours of sleep at night. I can complete one sleeping cycle in the four hours and hopefully my body will soon adapt to getting to rem sleep faster in my naps. This will help me make smooth transition into polyphasic sleep, God willing.

Other than this the day was very good, I thing i found yesterday was that it helps a lot if I go for a little bit of walking after eating in the morning just before FAJAR (morning prayer), it helps me concentrate better in the mornings and also this balcony thing really boosts my energy in the morning, I think it has something to do with being out, in the light. I had read an article a while ago which said that the sunshine helps us sleep better, soon I will find the article and post it here so if anyone is interested they can benefit from it as well, God willing.

So i’m going to go ahead and clean up a little bit and than may be read for a bit, take my 8:30 nap and than at 9 im going to head out. I can’t understand how I have been sleeping in all this time for 23 years. I don’t think I am ever going to go back to my old sleeping habits, ofcourse its  another story when im still in the bed and thats where one has to be a little serious, I have written about how i built this waking up early habit in my previous post so if you want to look through please do so.

Peace be with you,

Its about 7:15 am and I am sitting in my balcony and watching the sun come up through clouds and, the lights of the big city and apartments starting to fade away. There is nice cold breeze and my lungs are kind of on their happy hour I haven’t been so relaxed in a few weeks so Thank God for this opportunity.

I went to bed last night about 1:45 and as soon as I recall I fell asleep within a couple of minutes and the next thing I knew; I was up at 5:15ish after turning my Alarm off this morning, I don’t know how this can be. I guess I was really really pushing my sleeping limits, anyways when I got out the bed on my energy level I felt, lets say 2/10 it was really hard but thanks to ramadan I was up. There was much temptation to go back to sleep and I could not think of anything else to do this early in the morning with so little energy, but for some reason I put up good fight about going back to bed. I ran downstairs to see if the laundry was open, my lucky day the laundry was open at 5:45 in the morning so I came back got all my cloths together went to do laundry after 10 minutes got my laptop and came to the balcony, read a few articles that had been waiting for a good week or two. Now here I am writing this blog and now my energy level is about 5/10 i’m thinking once I am done with laundry before heading out I will take a 30 minutes nap that should bump up my energy level to 7 or so, and than I can finally head out and go about my day. Oh, wait a second :P I am already going about my day :D .

Man at this point I really feel and believe with all my heart that the prayer of Prophet Mohammad (peace be upon him) for his community (Ummah) was well received by God the most merciful. May God send his countless blessing on Prophet Mohammad (peace be upon him) and his family and his followers, and bless them all in their morning work as well as the followers of the other Prophets who are on the right path, and guide the ones who are Mislead, Indeed it is God the All Wise alone who guides the misguided as God says:

Allah guides towards His light whomever He wills; and Allah illustrates examples for mankind; and Allah knows everything.Al-Noor:35

Peace be with you,

Ok, so this is the 3rd day in a row I have been waking up for sehri and not going back to sleep. I am getting about 5-6 hours of sleep, which is very good compare to 8-10 hours of sleep. The only thing is i felt a little fatigue for the first 2 days and even this morning a little but nothing major. Yesterday I decided to take a 20 minutes nap to kind of catch up which turned into a 2 hours of “Ankhmacholi” kind of like being in 2 worlds at the same time, not very good. This morning i felt really drained out so i decided to take a 20 min nap before going out for the day which was huge success. I feel very energetic and no sense of sleep deprivation.

The next step is to keep this up for several days until the 20th of Ramadan and, than the last ten night should be the best time for me to start on my Polyphasic sleep.

I will continue the polyphasic sleep until the end of Ramadan it will be like a 10 day trail sort of thing and also I will get to receive the blessing of Laila-tul-Qadar which Im in much need of. (more on this as I continue..)

The only problem I am having is not really a problem :P , I am really dehydrated sometimes and it makes me sleep as well since I am use to drinking about 8 glasses of water a day now i seem to get only about 2-4 which is ok. My body is adapting to this and it is good for me because I plan to continue fasting at least twice a week after Ramadan still, so that should help. other than that not much about to start on my school work I have about and hour and half before I head to class.

Best Wishes,

waQas

Early Mornings September 19, 2007

The Prophet Mohammad (peace be upon him) often use to make the prayer.

“O Allah, bless my Ummah in their early morning endeavors.”

Recently I have realized the blessings of waking up early in the morning and starting my work early in the morning. I did continue to do that for about 20 days and than I went home sort of like a Vacation. I got really comfortable and started sleeping in, day by day it got worst and now I have realized that sometimes I can sleep in until like 10. For me thats pretty much the whole day gone because I have to start early or else the energy level is never the same if I start later and since I have the luxury to sleep in until like 10 or even later for more than 2 days because I don’t have a class until 1:30 I had fallen into the habit of sleeping in late.

This has had a huge impact on the level of my productivity. So now I have started to get back into the shape. I don’t go to sleep until I am sleepy even if its like 12 or 1 am. The wake up time is always the same I wake up for Sehri FAjar and don’t go to sleep after that. The amount of work I get done in this amount of time is phenomenal, during the day I have much energy. Its kind of funny I have more energy when I wake up early than I would have if i wake up later. If I wake up later the energy is kinda sucked out of me, and i lag all day.
